Tommy Birthday Card #3

Here's the third birthday card I made with Tommy. I decided that since I was trying to use up my whole paper pack, I should try to finish the Tommy Assortments also, and I only had two pieces left from my Assortments pack. I really like the little canvas flags and cork pieces that come in the Tommy Assortments pack. I almost thought I should hold on to them...but I was good and did not hoard them! I added a little bit of the yellow and white Baker's Twine and again, as with my first Tommy layout, I may add some Outdoor Denim or Cranberry once I get the Harvest Baker's Twine set. The sentiments are from the Card Chatter - Birthday stamp set, a set I go back to again and again.

Tommy Birthday Card #2

The following Tommy birthday card is very similar to the one I posted yesterday in that I used the same stamps sets from the Cricut Artiste bundle. I added a candle from that stamp set this time and a sentiment from a different stamp set, Card Chatter - Birthday, to the inside of the card. I also used pattern 20, on page 42, from Make it From Your Heart, Volume 1.

As I mentioned in my first post of this series, Tommy came out in the Spring/Summer 2013 Idea Book so it is on it's second run in the current catalog. That means it will only be available while the Autumn/Winter 2013 Idea Book is valid, until the end of January 2014. If you're interested in it, you might actually want to purchase it before January though. I know some papers which were not being sold anymore after July, like Later Sk8tr, sold out before July was even over!

Chevron Happy Birthday

Every year, a few of my college friends and I get together and we celebrate our birthdays. We have one December birthday, two January birthdays, and one September birthday but we usually aim to meet sometime between January-March. We all have work, school, extra-curricular, and/or family obligations plus one of us drives from out of town, so you can just imagine how difficult it is to find a Saturday that accomodates all of our schedules. Well, this past Saturday was our day. We went to see a play, had dinner at a nice restaurant, and then came back here to exchange presents, have cake and do a little beading!  

 

I opted to make the same style birthday card for each of them. I was really intrigued with this sketch from the Clean and Simple Stamping Blog.

I really love the example which uses the negative space for the word and wanted to try that out. The sketch was from the 15th but I hadn't had a chance to play with it because I've had tennis elbow (from stirring sand, alum, and cornstarch together in a pot on the stove to make treasure rocks for my preschoolers -- how do I explain that to people?!) and I have had to rest my arm. But there's nothing that motivates me like a deadline so I worked on Saturday morning...yes the morning before we were to meet! I used my Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge to make quick work of cutting the letters out of my Lagoon (teal) cardstock and got three panels with the word, "HAPPY," cut out of them, lickedy-split! It's difficult to see but the paper backing the, "HAPPY," panel is a lighter blue houndstooth pattern from a long retired CTMH paper called Splendor. I added the little flower from the Card word Puzzle set stamped on honey for a little pop (and I popped it up with foam tape)!

Patterned Paper: For Always (love that chevron pattern) and a scrap of blue houndstooth from the retired set called Splendor (used behind the HAPPY)

Cardstock: Lagoon, Honey, White Daisy, Black

Stamp pad: Archival Black

Stamp sets: Card Word Puzzle and Card Chatter-Birthday (I cut Birthday... off of the rest of it's sentiment-you could just mask it too)

Embellishments: Baker's Twine Neutral Assortment, Opaques Licorice Adhesive Gems, foam tape

 

I have also been wanting to play along with the Heart2Heart challenges but my arm has been bugging me too much. I was so happy to see that this week's chalenge is for  CAS-Clean and Simple. Yay! So I'm linking this post up to this week's challenge at H2H.

Paper Doll - It's Your Birthday

I have another sneak peek for you of one of my favorite new stamp sets from the new CTMH catalog. This cute girl is from the set (D1547) Paper Doll which will be available on February 1st. She was a lot of fun to color. I am slowly adding to my marker collection. Both copics and CTMH. I have yet to get a black alcohol marker (and shades of it) though and my daughter was extremely annoyed that I did not color the paper doll's hair black, which is the color of my daughter's hair! It gives me a good excuse to buy more markers, no?

This is the first time I have ever made a Center Step card. I used a wonderful tutorial from Beccy's Place. She has great tutorials for all sorts of differently folded cards here and is working on putting up more.

Clean and Simple Sketch #196

After the last day of Scramp Camp, I found myself looking at a ton of scraps on my dining table. It was the Clean and Simple Stamping blog to the recue! Sketch #196 is a wonderful scrap user upper. I can see my self using this sketch often.

I decided to combine squares from three different papers which each had circle patterns on them and which had similar colors. I'm really loving circle patterns lately! I cut the Colonial White banner using my CTMH Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge, inked up the edges of the banner, and then stamped a sentiment from the Card Chatter - Birthday stamp set.

The best part of this process was that I had enough time and paper to make some multiples. Maybe I'll finally have some cards on hand when I need them!

Wishes - Cards from Greeting Card Workshop

September has been busy with school starting (for both me and my kids), my daughter starting at a new school, and my son breaking his wrist! Whew! Well, I finally had some time to create! My wonderful upline, Wendy Vineis, had sent me the Wishes Card Confidence book awhile back. What a great resource! It has a multitude of beautiful card designs. I modified the "Greeting Card Workshop," on page 111 to create these cards:

The "Greeting Card Workshop," uses just three sheets of paper plus card bases (one patterned paper and two sheets of coordinating cardstock). You can embellish as much or as little as you like; keep them simple or dress them up! This patterned paper is from the retired paper pack called Sarsaparilla and yes, of course, I have been hoarding it! I thought it would work well for cards which could have a more masculine bent to them. Look for this in an upcoming workshop! I have a lot of sheets of paper floating about which I love but won't necessarily use for scrapbooking. I think this cutting pattern will be a good way to use my hoarded paper and to build up my stash of homemade cards.

Roxie Mojo 205

I fought my natural tendency to hoard and actually cut into my new pack of Roxie papers yesterday! I really like the Mojo Monday sketch for this week so this is what I used for inspiration.

I used Close To My Heart's 6" x 6" Kraft Die Cut cards for the first time as well. I mainly make standard sized cards but it was fun working with this size. So here's my take on the sketch.

The Kraft cards have a little scalloped edge that folds over the front. Here is a picture of the card with the scalloped edge showing.

And here's a closer view with it a little flatter.

I've been having fun with my new Cricut cartridge and cut out the "label" on which I stamped Happy Birthday with it as well as the spirals for the roses. Lisa Stenz has a great video tutorial about making the roses and rolling the edges down with a toothpick (it's a little easier if your flowers are larger). You can see her tutorial by clicking here. Anyway, in the midst of all this earthquake and hurricane hubbub, there I was yesterday, in my happy place, making paper roses! Very therapeutic!

I also cut my leaves with the Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge but I bent them here and there and then sponged ink on them to give the look of veins.

I am happy to report that we were not woken up with an aftershock last night (for the first time since the earthquake occured). We were, of course, lucky that the earthquake did not cause any damage...as far as we can tell. I hope we can say the same for Hurricane Irene in a couple of days!

Clean and Simple Sketch 133

I've had these pretty Martha Stewart flowers in my stash for a little while. I inherited them from a friend who is much better about cleaning out her supplies than I am. Good thing I am teaching preschool and have a place to use all my crafting supplies! Anyway, when I saw this Clean and Simple sketch, I immediately thought about these flowers and the Sweetheart papers from CTMH.



The black strip under the flowers is the reverse side of the polka dotted pink paper. It's just a muted version of the same pattern. This was a nice and quick card!
