Free Spirit Birthday Cards

I mixed some old products (very old) and some new products for these cards. I used one of my favorite paper packs of all time, Free Spirit, and the new Holiday Tags stamp set (D1560) for the frame and sentiment. The frame is cut with the Artiste Cricut cartridge and popped up with some foam tape. I also used the Neutral Assortment of Baker's Twine and an old teardrop punch I had in my stash. I used Chocolate and Indian Corn Blue (retired) stamp pads. The rolled up candles are a good way to use up some small pieces of scrap paper. If you're sending the cards through the mail, you could keep it 2-D and use rectangular pieces of paper

Project Inspirations: Mini Album

I love this project which uses cuts from the Cricut Artiste! It's a great way to use up some extra scraps you might have laying around and I think it would make a cool gift, especially if you have any preteen or teen girls in your life. The ones I know seem to love journals! Of course you can always make a masculine version too!

Fall 2005 Layouts

I spent some time organizing my scrap paper yesterday. I've had a variety of systems to keep scraps over the years. I started off with a file box and file folders. This worked for awhile but I needed the file box for something and by then I had acquired quite a lot of scraps. Then I switched to keeping them in the pocket dividers that came in a Cropper Hopper vertical paper holder. This was probably my worst system. It was very difficult to reach the small scraps that had fallen way down into the dividers. I couldn't open them up the way I could with a file folder. Most recently, I've been keeping them in two 12" x 12" plastic drawers...which was definitely not enough space. Yesterday, I cleaned out another drawer and divided my scraps between three drawers. Now, one drawer holds my neutral scraps (white, off-white, browns, blacks, and grays). One drawer holds my green and blue scraps while the last holds purples, pinks, reds, oranges, and yellows. I could probably benefit from using two or three more drawers but right now I can't expand anymore!

Anyway, looking at all of my scraps inspired me and that's what it's all about! I started cleaning up my desk just a bit and found some cute photos of my kids from 6 years ago (yes, I still have a lot of organizing to do). So I used these pictures, some scraps, some old embellishments, and some new stuff to make the layouts below. I love the background paper on that second layout and I didn't want to cover it up too much so I tried to keep my embellishments to a minimum.

Using up Scraps

As you can imagine, after making all the SnowFriends cards, I had quite a few scraps of Stardust paper left over. I tried to be good and put usable scraps in a baggie so that I could go back and see what I could do with them. Here are two designs what I came up with.

Both cards have some dimension to them so my scanner had a hard time getting everything in focus, but these images are still better than the photos I took of them. Please forgive the blurry Happy Birthday sentiment on the second card. The sentiment is from (C1257) Happy Birthday, which I use a lot! Most of the scraps are from (X7109B) Stardust . I also used (Z578) Corner Rounder, (Z1223) Dimensional Elements Booksmart, (Z2308) Brown Bag Marker, the stamp of the month from last August (D1352) It's Your Day, (1242) Sunflower cardstock, brads from my stash, and Nestabilities.
